Areas of expertise
I am Associate Professor in Geomorphology and Geoarchaeology at the University of Milano, Italy. My interests are in Quaternary geology, geomorphology and geoarchaeology of circum-Mediterranean regions and arid lands of Africa and Asia. I am investigating the interrelationship of past climatic and environmental changes and cultural responses of archaeological communities including their adaptation and exploitation of natural resources. I worked in a variety of contexts spanning from the Palaeolithic to modern ethnographic case studies, distributed in Italy, Sahara, Sahel of Sudan, East Africa, Levant, Mesopotamia, and Arabian Peninsula. I am also interested in loess, palaeopedology, rock weathering, rock art preservations, and raw material provenance, and I investigated these topics at several localities of Northern Italy, North and East Africa, Western Asia and Antarctica.
