Areas of expertise
I am an archaeologist and heritage professional with extensive international experience in the academic, museum, and commercial sectors. I am the current president of the Society for Post-Medieval Archaeology (Europe's leading society for the archaeology of the period c.1500 to the present), and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Society for Historical Archaeology (the North American counterpart). I have worked professionally in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, South America, the Gulf region and Egypt; my published research focuses on 1) 18th- to 20th-century ceramics in global context and 2) post-medieval nationalism and national identity. My undergraduate degree is from St Mary's College of Maryland (USA), and my postgraduate degrees in archaeology are from the University of York (UK).
